Security Statement
Venture Bank’s Online Banking system brings together a
combination of industry-approved security technologies to protect data for the
Bank and for you, our customer. It features password-controlled system entry, a
VeriSign-issued Digital ID for the Online Banking server, Secure Sockets Layer
(SSL) protocol for data encryption, and a router and a firewall appliance along
with firewall software to regulate the inflow and outflow of server traffic.
Secure Access and Verifying User Authenticity
To begin a session with the Online Banking server the user must key in an
Access ID and a password. Our system, the Online Banking system, uses a “3
strikes and you’re out” lock-out mechanism to deter users from repeated login
attempts. After three unsuccessful login attempts, the system locks the user
out, requiring either a designated wait period or a phone call to the Bank to
verify the password before re-entry into the system. After successfully logging
into the Internet Banking server with the proper Access ID and password, a VeriSign digital ID is issued to establish a secure session between the Internet
Banking server and the user. This secure session (using 128-bit SSL protocol) is
achieved through the issuance of a “public key” to the user that works in
combination with a “private key” that is maintained on the internet banking
server. Through the use of the aforementioned keys, data traveling between the
Internet Banking server and the user is encrypted and digitally signed which
allows both parties to know that the data has not been modified either
intentionally or unintentionally and that it is being received from each party.
Secure Data Transfer
Once the server session is established, the user and the server are in a
secured environment. Because the server has been certified as a 128-bit secure
server by VeriSign, data traveling between the user and the server is encrypted
with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. With SSL, data that travels between
the Bank and customer is encrypted and can only be decrypted with the public and
private key pair. In short, the Online Banking server issues a public key to the
end user’s browser and creates a temporary private key. These two keys are the
only combination possible for that session. When the session is complete, the
keys expire and the whole process starts over when a new end user makes a server
session.
Router and Firewall
Requests must filter through a router and a firewall appliance before they
are permitted to reach the server. A router, a piece of hardware, works in
conjunction with the firewall appliance and firewall software, to block and
direct traffic coming to the server. The configuration begins by disallowing ALL
traffic and then opens only when necessary to process acceptable data requests,
such as sending customer requests to the Bank.
Using the above technologies, your Online Banking transactions
are secure.
E-mail
Venture Bank’s e-mail access is not part of its Internet Banking service. If
you choose to contact us via e-mail, please keep in mind that this communication
is not encrypted and therefore is not secure. You should not send e-mail that
includes sensitive information such as account numbers. The e-mail service may
not be used to make bank transfers between accounts or to make loan payments
from an account. E-mail transmitted by you to us often will not be delivered to
us immediately. If you need to contact us immediately to stop payment, to report
an unauthorized use of your Online Banking password, ATM card, debit card, or
lost or stolen checks, you should call us immediately at 952-830-9999. We will
not be responsible for acting on or responding to any e-mail request made
